Celebrating 100,000 trees planted in our climate action journey

From global reforestation projects to habitat restoration here in the UK, reaching 100,000 trees planted is a significant achievement and reflects our ongoing commitment to supporting a more sustainable future.

Sustainability isn't just part of what we do, it's part of who we are. That's why we're incredibly proud to celebrate reaching 100,000 trees planted through our partnership with Ecologi, a landmark achievement in our commitment to climate action.

While the number itself is significant, this achievement represents something much bigger. It reflects years of collective action, meaningful partnerships and a shared ambition to make a positive impact on the planet for future generations.

A partnership built on action

Since partnering with Ecologi in September 2023, we've supported verified reforestation, carbon reduction, carbon avoidance and habitat restoration projects globally. As a certified B Corporation and climate action platform, Ecologi provides a transparent way for us to support these initiatives and track their impact.

Tree planting has been a key part of our partnership. For customers on our renewable electricity products, we fund tree planting through Ecologi's reforestation projects, helping to support the creation of new forests and the restoration of natural habitats.

Our tree-planting efforts also extend beyond our customer Tree Planting Scheme. We plant a tree in our global forest for every new LinkedIn follower and support a range of colleague-led and partner sustainability initiatives and engagement campaigns. Together, these activities have helped us reach this milestone and continue supporting reforestation projects globally.

100,000 trees planted and growing

Planting 100,000 trees is an achievement we're immensely proud of. Every tree represents an investment in the future, helping to restore ecosystems, rebuild habitats, support biodiversity and strengthen communities around the world.

The trees we've helped fund are supporting reforestation projects in countries including Kenya, Madagascar and Ethiopia, helping to restore land affected by deforestation and environmental degradation while supporting the long-term recovery of local ecosystems. Beyond the environmental benefits, many of these projects support local communities through employment opportunities, skills development and sustainable land management practices, creating a positive impact that extends far beyond tree planting alone.

Here's a snapshot of just some of the incredible, global reforestation projects we're supporting: 

Funding global climate action

Alongside reforestation projects, we're proud to support a range of verified climate action initiatives that help reduce, avoid and remove greenhouse gas emissions. These projects form an important part of a broader approach to tackling climate change, combining emissions reductions with nature-based solutions to deliver meaningful environmental impact.

One of the most recent projects we've supported is a UK seagrass restoration and research initiative delivered by Project Seagrass through Ecologi. Seagrass meadows are among the world's most valuable coastal ecosystems, providing habitats for thousands of marine species, improving water quality and helping to protect coastlines from erosion and storm damage. They are also incredibly effective at capturing and storing carbon, helping naturally remove carbon, despite covering only a small proportion of the ocean floor.

However, it is estimated that up to 92% of the UK's seagrass habitats have been lost since 1936. Through this project, we're helping to support vital restoration activities, including seed collection, nursery cultivation, planting, research and long-term monitoring. The funding also contributes to identifying new restoration sites and expanding seagrass planting programmes across the UK.

By supporting seagrass restoration, we're helping to protect and rebuild these important marine ecosystems, delivering lasting benefits for biodiversity, climate resilience and future generations.

Building on the impact we've made

As we reach this milestone, it's an opportunity to reflect on the collective impact of the environmental projects we've supported through our partnership with Ecologi. To date, we have planted 106,050 trees, helped prevent 480.93 tonnes of CO₂e emissions and removed a further 27 tonnes of CO₂e from the atmosphere. We've also supported the restoration of 94.24m² of habitat, helping to strengthen ecosystems and enhance biodiversity.

While we're taking a moment to celebrate this progress, we're equally focused on the opportunities ahead. Through our partnership with Ecologi, we'll continue supporting reforestation and climate action projects that restore nature, reduce emissions and create lasting positive impact in the UK and around the world.
